A Heap of Anime News Landed During the Festive Season
The Yuletide season offer a plethora of pastimes far superior than checking the updates: unwrapping gifts, getting stuffed on holiday treats, and using patience techniques to not yelling at relatives. I hope you managed to do all these things and more. Nevertheless, the entertainment world doesn't go on vacation, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Numerous exciting announcements surfaced over the break, and if you didn't see a few, here is a roundup of the most exciting bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Is Moving Forward (In 2027)
Perhaps the most surprising piece of news, the notorious troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to deter the series' continuation. The show will be back with a second cour in 2027—so far away they might as well have dubbed it season 4. More surprisingly, animation studio J.C. Staff will continue to be leading the project. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the start, which is seen as a good sign. Yet, the key visual for the second cour is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This leads one to believe that, nowadays, they are probably mocking the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a standing for being an top-tier animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the high caliber of its output but for the ethical practices of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga published in Shonen Jump, arguably the best-known magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it resumed publication with a more relaxed pace, the series demonstrated it still retained the fans' support and positive sentiment, and now fans are ecstatic about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Season 6 Has a Sequel In Production
Kingdom is the top-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only just received an English release, but the anime has been airing for some time, and its sixth season was a further excellent entry. As it happens that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in production, and it will probably air in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
One more studio known for the superior craftsmanship of its work, Science Saru has brought us critically acclaimed works of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the true story of Fatima, an prominent woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and captivating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my watchlist.
The Tougen Anki Series Will Return With a Second Season
Immediately following the airing of the final episode of the first season, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be getting a follow-up. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm release date has yet to be revealed.
