Edwards along with O'Neil are two of the early candidates in the frame to succeed the former manager as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was dismissed on the weekend after the squad's ten-game without a victory beginning to the Premier League campaign.

Furthermore both candidates - both of who have historic associations to the team - are part of the options to be considered by the Wolves ownership.

Edwards is currently at Middlesbrough, which would create a potential obstacle to his hiring at Molineux.

Nevertheless the former Luton head coach - who played over a century of games for Wolves during his playing career - is considered a strong contender for the position.

The mid-career manager is said to have backing from the club directors as they start the search of hiring a fresh head coach.

Gary O'Neil is additionally appearing as a surprise contender, although he would be a surprising appointment given he was released by the club in December last year.

The ex- West Ham United player is out of work which means Wolves would not be required to pay any compensation.
