Fans are eagerly awaiting for the chilling show Welcome to Derry, which is receiving positive feedback and weaving in references from additional King stories. Following the premiere, HBO declared that the second installment will arrive early, released fittingly for Halloween.
Early Release Particulars
Beginning on October 31 at midnight PT, the second episode of the Derry prequel will premiere on HBO's online platform, prior to its traditional TV airing. Future chapters of the series run will premiere on the weekend on the network and streaming service, building toward the concluding chapter on Sunday, December 14.
Series Overview
Based in the Derry mythology, It: Welcome to Derry borrows elements from the classic book while expanding on the universe brought to life by the It movie director in the two It films. It Chapter One centered on young characters battling unimaginable horrors, so it’s fitting that the series follows in those footsteps. Yet, the first installment of HBO’s Welcome to Derry shows it set out to raise the stakes, providing heightened horror than the movies and setting a harsh vibe for what's to come.
Setting and Themes
Taking place in the 1960s, the program features a different group of adults and children living in a apparently peaceful community masking a sinister core. The town functions through a vicious, repeating pattern—characterized by violence, bigotry, and the supernatural, as a monstrous presence resurfaces once every three decades. Although Welcome to Derry might appear like it leans too heavily to the cinematic adaptations on the surface, what sets apart the HBO Max series is its two-sided viewpoint—narrated via the perspectives of kids and grown-ups at the same time. The kids remain especially susceptible to the monster's horror, but older characters also face dealing with their individual fears arising from Derry’s deep-seated bigotry and covert otherworldly powers.
Episode 2 premieres on October 31 at 3 a.m. EST.
