Jennifer Lawrence Expresses Discussing Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ Tearing the Nation Apart
Lawrence has expressed that she no longer feels suitable to speak out countering the Trump administration, concerned it could worsen unhelpful debate and deepen rifts across the nation.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Says Lawrence
Speaking with media, she reflected, “When Trump was first in office, I believed I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. But as we’ve learned, election after election, celebrities do not make a difference whatsoever on voter decisions.”
Lawrence added, “Why continue? I’m just expressing personal views on something that’s going to heighten conflict dividing the nation apart.”
Shifting Views
Jennifer Lawrence has previously been open about backing conservative and liberal presidential nominees throughout her life. Growing up with Republican parents in her home state, she cast her ballot for the Republican nominee in the 2008 election before joining the Democrats and stating she recognized during Obama’s administration that voting Republican was undermining her own rights as a female citizen.
Earlier Remarks
In 2015, she commented that a Trump victory could represent “the end of the world” and endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 election. In the latest campaign, she lent her support to Kamala Harris, “as I feel she’s an amazing candidate and I am confident that she will take all necessary steps to protect reproductive rights.”
Industry Position
The star was aligned with numerous celebrities in her opposition to Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the limited influence celebrities have over the public choices was highlighted by his election win.
“Another four years seems distinct,” said Lawrence regarding his administration. “Since he stated his intentions. We understood his record for four years. He was transparent. And that’s the option selected.”
New Release
Lawrence is discussing Die, My Love, the filmmaker’s drama in which she portrays a young mom who struggles with her psychological well-being in the countryside. During a media event for the project in the film festival, the star spoke about Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s horrifying. What’s happening is no less than a atrocity and it’s terrible.”
Broader Concerns
Lawrence added by saying that she was disheartened by “the hostility in the discussions of U.S. political debates right now and how that is going to be accepted to the younger generation right now. It’s going to be normal to them that politicians lie.”
The actor sought to redirect outrage about the conflict to leaders rather than actors and artists. “Keep attention on who is responsible,” she remarked, in what many took to be a reference to the recent commitment endorsed by thousands of Hollywood professionals to boycott Israeli film institutions.
Personal Connections
Jennifer Lawrence, who earned critical acclaim at a young age for her performance in her breakout movie, is generating Oscar buzz for her performance in her latest project. Even though Lynne Ramsay has rejected the plot being seen as one of post-birth struggles and mental illness, she revealed that she connected with elements of her character’s journey after the birth of her new baby, shortly after filming concluded.
“I felt anxiety for my son,” she explained, “envisioning every negative outcome, and then questioning everything that I was trying. I was seeing a therapist, but I started taking a medication called Zurzuvae and I continued it for two weeks and it was effective.”
Career Moments
Lawrence also discussed about the liberating necessity of filming without clothes in the movie while she was in pregnancy and couldn’t work out.
“It’s refreshing,” she said, about having to abandon insecurities. “Honestly, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, What separates me between me and a prostitute? But it isn’t a major concern.”
