Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades After Leading Abusive Songs About Coach Chris Wilder
The striker has signed with the Championship side just seven months following leading derogatory taunts targeting the team's coach, Wilder.
This experienced forward, without a club since leaving Leeds, has signed a contract joining the Championship club in difficulty until January. His seven-year time at Elland Road was ended through agreement this past summer.
Among the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player involved leading offensive songs regarding Chris Wilder amid Leeds' promotion celebrations this spring. Now, the former England international is set to play under Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to lift the team he loves out of the relegation zone.
Previous Conflict Involving the Striker and the Manager
The pair had history before Leeds won promotion to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United lost the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder called the forward as a "muppet" when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won automatic promotion whereas Leeds United fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Reconciliation & Moving Forward
All seems to have been resolved with Sheffield United, the league's least productive attack, urgently requiring of improvement up front and Bamford looking to rejuvenate his playing days.
The song about Wilder went viral this spring. An apologetic Patrick along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the next day.
Chris Wilder said at the time: “Spoke with Patrick recently and I’ve no problem whatsoever with it. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow pro! But I valued and admired him giving me a call.
“We had 20 minutes and similarly I spoke to Daniel too and had a longer discussion together and he's a super guy, a class act. When I was playing we used to give it and take it and that’s an integral part of the game at every level, including a Sunday morning. I've got no problem at all. I am cool with it and I told him that to Patrick.”
Recent Career Challenges
The forward made 18 games with Leeds United in the previous campaign but the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC and Boro striker has faced difficulties with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
