Severe Rains Worsen Circumstances for Evacuated Residents of Gaza, UN Warn
Persistent precipitation over the last seven days have compounded the extremely difficult living conditions of the many hundreds of thousands of uprooted Palestinians in the region, as stated by humanitarian organizations.
"Horrendous" Weather Creates Grave Threats
A official characterized the recent storm as "terrible", with precipitation so heavy that up to 15cm (6in) of water gathered on the terrain.
"Last night was exceptionally difficult for the residents. The heavy rains were so strong... And the gales were so powerful," stated the spokesperson.
There is grave concern that minors living in tents in soaked attire will fall victim to hypothermia and various illnesses.
Casualties and Extensive Destruction
Health authorities have confirmed that one baby has succumbed from hypothermia and a minimum of 11 other people have been killed in structural failures triggered by the severe weather.
Further statements suggest a greater death toll. Authorities said that multiple structures had fully given way and many others had sustained partial collapse.
- Roughly 55,000 families affected by flooding.
- More than 40 emergency safe spaces severely flooded.
- Numerous individuals compelled to move once more.
Aid Distribution Deemed Insufficient
Organizations have increased deliveries of shelter, blankets and garments following the halt in hostilities commenced, but they emphasize there is still not enough aid reaching those in need.
"Agencies are operating tirelessly to deliver that assistance and to distribute it, but the magnitude of the needs is so immense that we continue to see thousands of individuals and children who are genuinely enduring hardship each evening," cautioned one spokesperson.
Future Issues and Truce Plans
The second phase of the truce includes arrangements for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with post-war governance, the withdrawal of military forces, and other terms.
Aid bodies have stressed the necessity for "greater and continuous aid to address urgent and future requirements."
The war was initiated by an assault in late 2023. Later actions have resulted in a significant number of casualties in the region, based on official reports.
