Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot conceded that it's natural for doubts to be raised about his position after a further heavy loss against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in 12 matches, marking the team's poorest streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got plenty of backing from above,” the coach commented.
“It would be nice to change things and earn three points of course but if you are in a managerial role and underperforming then it's typical that people question you.”
He continued, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Club Management
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “In the normal conversations we have I sense the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them after this game so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Failings and Player Response
Slot expressed regret over familiar failings from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones stated.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a spell such as this with outcomes so bad.”
Jones stated, “But we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we’re always going to fight.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to the top, demonstrate to all once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
