The President Invites Families of Injured Guard Personnel to the Presidential Residence
Former President Trump announced on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a Guard member fatally shot last week to attend the presidential home.
He mentioned that he spoke to her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Tragic Incident
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a attack on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in grave state.
Memorials across the state have been held in their remembrance.
White House Call
The commander-in-chief explained he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both members of the state Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor her,” the president told the press. “And likewise with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Public Reaction
Community members assembled over the past few days at a local school in the state to honor Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s national effort to support law enforcement in the capital.
Remembering Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the type of pupil that teachers desired. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that lifted those around her,” the principal, the leader of her former high school, told the press. “She was caring, considerate and always ready to assist people.”
Memorial arrangements for Sarah are in the process of planning.
Judicial Actions and Policy Changes
Officials have accused a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of murder and charges of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The event led the government to suspend asylum processing and halt providing entry permits to holders of Afghan passports.
Condition of the Airman
Wolfe, a native of the city, began his service in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, according to the news agency.
He is still undergoing care and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s governor Morrisey mentioned on television.
Attorney general Pam Bondi told Fox News Sunday that she planned to meet with his relatives.
Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from her high school in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a law enforcement officer with distinction, as stated by the state guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had fortitude,” Morrisey told the audience at the memorial. “Though her time was cut short, she has made an impact that’s going to endure.”
